Big Truth, Little Songs:
Rejoice in the Lord Always

I. Intro

Some of the most familiar songs have some of the deepest meanings
I love the truth that is in these songs!
Truth is

II. Text: Philippians 4:4

Verse 4:1
Verse 4:2-3: Concerning Bitterness
Verse 4:4: Concerning Joy
Verse 4:5-7: Concerning Worry

III. Point: REJOICE is a CHOICE

Combat Bitterness with JOY
The Joy of the LORD is my strength
Make the CHOICE to get past that which holds you back and REJOICE in the LORD!
THIS IS SO FOREIGN TO OUR NATURE!
Combat Worry with Joy
Count your many blessings name them one by one.
What does worry bring?
The english word WORRY comes from the old English word for STRANGLE
This is what WORRY does to your joy…strangles it.
Worry causes headaches
Worry causes neck pains
Worry causes Ulcers
Worry affects our thinking
Worry affects our digestion
Worry affects our life negatively

IV. How?

MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE IN A RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THROUGH SAVING FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones observed, “There are many people who never know the joy of the Lord because they have failed to see themselves as miserable sinners. The only way to be happy in Christ is to be desperately unhappy without him”
You can not build a building of faith on a foundation of sand.

WALK IN SUBMISSION TO THE SOVEREIGN SPIRIT OF GOD.
This is the key to getting over yourself
This is the key to finding peace with God.

VIEW YOUR TRIALS THROUGH THE LENS OF SCRIPTURE.
Scripture never tells you to go WORRY about stuff
Scripture never tells you to trust in your own strength
Scripture promises the SPIRIT of CHRIST!!!

DEAL PROPERLY WITH RELATIONAL CONFLICTS.
It is time for some of you to go make things right with a brother or sister in Christ.
refusing to do so, is selfish, prideful, and against the movement of the Spirit in our church.

SING PRAISES TO GOD.
When you’re feeling down, turn to the Psalms and create your own tunes to the words.
Put on some praise music, or get out a hymnal and get alone and begin to sing to the Lord.
Jesus and the disciples sang a hymn (Ps. 118) as they went out to Gethsemane (Matt. 26:30).

SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS.
Get involved in serving Christ and find gladness
Terry Horton and knocking on doors…

FOCUS YOUR MIND DAILY ON THE LORD AND THE THINGS HE HAS PROMISED US IN CHRIST
set your mind on the things of Christ
Set your mind on ministry
set your mind on kingdom work

LIVE BY FAITH, NOT BY FEELINGS.
Feelings change: FAITH is steady
Don’t let your faith get shaken by a lack of joy.
